Blue Birds and Red Clover

Blue Birds and Red Clover

A lifetime ago
I was there again
crying at ground zero
on the back porch of
Cartersville Spinning Mill.

As I smoked another number
a Midnight train passed
Buck Ice and Coal
feels like
I'm there still.

Blue birds and red clover
deja vu in ruins
over and over.

Thirty five years gone
I can't explain
this feeling inside
like a ghost
still harranging me.

On a journey through the past
back to 1983
I need to cool it down
step back outside it
this old fevered memory.

Blue birds and red clover
deja vu flute tune
over and over.

Just signed the paperwork
I started walking
I didn't need a vehicle
and over my shoulder
I waved and went over the hill.

I walked back over
the cobblestones
to Broadway
and started up
a few new loose ends.

A drank some Killian Red
and got on stage
of that upstairs bar
and read my poems
and was back
in the game again.

Blue birds and red clover
deja vu in runes
over and over.

Blue birds and red clover
deja vu
over and over
it always ends too soon

Invasion of the Warrior Lords

Invasion of the Warrior Lords

I want to be with you until I'm dead,
but the Warrior-Lords want to rush it.

Which should be a long time anyways
because they are slow,
we fuse, they can't see us now,
we are dumb like sacks of rocks.

We become almost one person.
Here's a toast to you,
on this wet front porch, Miss Jane.

My sweet treasures, my memory of the day
I made your acqauaintance
We meld, we have the same dark mission.
All my love on this summery autumn
dear dark Miss Jane.

When they cart you off to be beheaded,
I will be there to save you.
We cover each other's backs, we stand together,

I love you.
My sweet treasures,
the Warrior-Lords had come for them,
and were falling one by one.

I sit here in the tower with a dark lady,
two crossbows and plenty of arrows.
I keep looking out the window,
while she writes it all down.

Watching for the Warrior-Lords,
as our realm of sky poets disintegrates.
I watch it crumble from five floors up.

Dark lady looks up, says,
"Don't worry baby,
I'm gonna throw boiling oil on them..."
As down below they demand our heads on platters.

I watch with regret the deaths of three sky poets,
to the blades of the Warrior-Lords.

Green Ringlets

Green Ringlets
The ocean turns with each new day
he spilled the beer and domestic turmoil abounds.
I dropped the receiver back
and lit a cigarette--- it tasted murky.

Her eyes are green with deep golden ringlets
around her pupils.
A dead spot--- there was nothing there at all.

Saw his lady drinking beer with another man all alone
said I'd like to take her to the shed

make pictures of her eyeballs.
She is like smoke--- she smells musky.

There is a crackling
it's too numerous, conjunctural---
the burden of the poachers
they line around you for favors.
They come to you under smoky skies
the smoky underlit city skies.

Coming around and hitting my fist on wood
it gets quite late when it's early then.

The cold wind blows on the orderly ghetto
the city is moonlit and quiet
silent black cars pass sometimes.

Watching the searchlight in the smoked up sky
as it crosses the perimeter
and doubles back upon itself.

November 27 1978

November 27 1978

A lot colder down here tonight
than this time in 1978.

It was a warm night
overcast
rain threatening
but not yet arriving.

In those days
cigarettes were acceptble
even expected
in a hospital waiting room
in the Maternity Ward.

Watched my first ever episode
of Dallas there
just about the only one
I managed to sit through.

Early Cosplay
I was dressd like
the cover of Street Legal
at least I had
the pants and hair
never wore th little vest.

I went to the waiting room
rest room
had a left-handed smoke.

Outside it busted out raining
te nurse came in
and told me Clay
had just been born.

Sunshine Seventy-Seven

Sunshine Seventy-Seven

I went and sold some blood
then bought
a big bottle of wine.

Copped some weed
so we could party
and celebrate my new job.

Blind bat getting rowdy
tried to attack Jimmy Green.

He picked up a stick
off the darkened street
smacked the bat down.

While I was over at her house
I helped Galatea
paint her bathroom green.

Powder snow whisked up my nose
to my brain
pizzeria summit meeting.

Then riding all night
delivering pizza.

Feeling the hot dabs
of Summer swelter
and going to bed alone.

I looked into her eyes
in the morning light
as we walked
on the dew covered grass.

The clouds churned white
it seemed like
a hundred years ago.

I had the stoned awareness
there were illustrations
in my thoughts
obviously created by her stare

Her kisses
could have lasted forever
her eyes
were like two blue stones
my thoughts flew like birds.

On the blood red clay of the bank
we sat
she was sitting behind me
wrapped around me.

I could feel the air
so hot and dry.

The sun swam over the lake
in crimson floods
the clouds were shifting
in orange flashes.

Like golden chains
the clouds cut across the blue sky
my thoughts of her
seemed to freeze my blood.

The day mellowed finally
I wondered when or if
she was ever coming back
it was so silent.

I found that she was gone
told her goodbye on the telephone
as the sun went down
blazing red.

Blue stars sparkled
on the black sky above
as I sat on the corner
smoking my weed.

Wondering how much longer
I would have to wait
waiting for the sky to split.

The night lumbered on
club-footed
I wished she would
come to my window
and lay beside me again.

Her eyes
like blue stones
as my thoughts
flew like birds.

Walkabout Riff Raff

Walkabout Riff Raff

If dreams
are parallel worlds
I'm on a planet
with my brother.

Sort of a Mad Max
or Dune
or Clockwork Orange vibe.

Traveling home
looking for a way
to get back home again
to see our mother
again.
